You Can Live ForeverAfter her father’s death, Jaime is sent to stay with relatives who belong to a Jehovah’s Witness community.
After her father’s death, Jaime is sent to stay with relatives who belong to a Jehovah’s Witness community. It is the early 1990s, and the move places the gay teenager in a setting governed by beliefs she does not share. Her unexpected connection with Marike, the daughter of a prominent elder, develops into a secret romance. For Jaime, love is something immediate and earthly; for Marike, attachment cannot easily be separated from the faith that structures her life. As their feelings become harder to conceal, the community responds by trying to separate them. The girls must confront choices that reach beyond their time together. Their relationship drives a coming-of-age story about desire, belonging and the different futures each has been taught to expect.
