Queens of Drama

Synopsis

Mimi Madamour’s rise to pop stardom becomes entangled with a passionate relationship with punk performer Billie Kohler. Their love story unfolds across decades of success, collapse and reinvention, bringing private emotion into collision with public image. The world around them is shaped by the excesses of early-2000s pop culture, but the consequences of fame extend far beyond one moment in the charts. Desire, jealousy and devotion circulate between performers and also between celebrities and the fans who claim them. Alexis Langlois presents the relationship through an exuberant musical satire in which glitter and melodrama coexist with the damage of toxic attachment. At its centre are two women trying to love while performing versions of themselves for the world.
