Malwa Khushan

Synopsis

Malwa and Khushan live with their grandmother in rural India, where the older sister's outspoken manner offers Khushan an example of confidence she admires. A quiet new classmate enters Khushan's life and brings feelings that complicate her familiar understanding of friendship. The younger girl's emotional discovery unfolds within the routines and expectations of home and school rather than in isolation from them. The short film follows adolescence as a process of noticing differences that do not immediately arrive with a clear name. Malwa's influence matters, but Khushan must still make sense of her own experience rather than simply borrow another person's courage. The story considers how a first attraction can alter a young person's relationship with herself while the surrounding world appears, outwardly, to continue unchanged.
