Lan works as a counselor and presents a professional composure that conceals significant pain of her own. Meeting Zhen-Zhen, a young woman whose account of a fatal road accident echoes the event that killed Lan's lover, destabilizes that separation between work and private grief. What should be a space organized around another person's care becomes entangled with Lan's unresolved questions. The relationship develops an intensity that makes boundaries increasingly difficult to maintain. The story follows the risks created when recognition becomes obsession and professional authority begins serving a need it was not designed to satisfy. Lan must confront whether she is listening to the woman before her or seeking a way back into the loss that continues to shape her life.
