Gillyfish

Synopsis

Gillian and Lana attempt an unusual form of relationship repair: Gillian will impersonate Lana during a visit to Lana's father, hoping that the substituted encounter can address an injury Lana cannot approach directly. The arrangement depends on trust between the women and on the belief that a carefully managed performance can produce a genuine emotional result. Conversation with the father reveals information that neither partner has fully anticipated. What began as an act of support becomes entangled with questions about truth, identity, and the right to speak on someone else's behalf. The short film follows the limits of proxy intimacy, asking whether helping a loved person avoid an encounter can also prevent the honesty required for their relationship to remain secure.
