Crown Shyness

Synopsis

Nian's mother returns to Taiwan after years separated by the pandemic, bringing a cancer diagnosis that changes the family's immediate future. Her death leads Nian's traditional grandmother to move into the home Nian shares with her undisclosed partner Zai-zai. The new domestic arrangement places grief beside the pressure of concealment, while previously hidden histories complicate the family's understanding of itself. Zai-zai also carries obligations and relationships that are not fully visible within the household. As secrets emerge, Nian's sense of stability begins to fracture. The drama follows the difficulty of caring for relatives while keeping important parts of a life unspoken. Its women must negotiate whether protecting one relationship through silence may be damaging another that has also helped them survive.
