Butterfly Story

Synopsis

Mi-rang is accustomed to winning swimming competitions, and her position becomes less secure when Sam-mi begins outperforming her. The change affects more than results, because competition has helped organize how Mi-rang understands herself and the other girl. Both know a superstition that touching a butterfly can cause blindness, and Mi-rang's decision to test it introduces another form of uncertainty into their relationship. The short film places youthful belief alongside rivalry, allowing the fear of losing an established place to become connected to an apparently irrational experiment. Its premise asks how people respond when comparison makes their familiar strengths feel unstable. The girls' shared world becomes charged with the possibility that something small and seemingly harmless might alter how they see themselves and each other.
